David Mc Quillan Crowned First All Ireland
8Ball Champion
David Mc Quillan (Cavan) won the first inaugural All Ireland Pub Players
8Ball Pool Championship with a 6-2 victory over Co. Down’s Many Byrne in the
final at TJ’s Pool Club venue in Newry……….
David who started the tournament as the number 3 seed and with the tournament
bookie laying him odds at 5/1 from the off making some punters very happy
come Saturday evening after the fantastic display the Cavan player put in
from start to finish played to Avery high standard which included a 5-1 defeat
of the current European Pool Champion Stephen Dempsey in the semi-final…….

The four semi-finals LtoR: Manny Byrne (Down, runner-up),
Paul Heaney (Tyrone),
Stephen Dempsey (Cavan) and David McQuillan (Cavan, winner)
David started his tournament campaign in the last-64 defeating Stephen Johnson
(Lisburn) 5-1 and followed that up with some more fantastic results over Raymond
McKenna (Newry, 5-0), Paul Tierney (Meath, 5-1), Daniel Gorman (Belfast, 5-4),
Stephen Dempsey (Cavan, 5-1) before over coming Manny Byrne (Newry) 6-2 in
the final which seen him pulled off some amazing finishes to be crowned the
2007 All Ireland Pub Players 8Ball Pool Champion for the first time………
Manny Byrne reached the final also by recording victories over Colin Mc Mackin
(Beragh, 5-2), Paul Corrigan (Fintona, 5-1), Lee Hull (Coleraine, 5-3), Paul
Heaney (Sixmilecross, 5-0) before losing 6-2 to David………

All in all another great tournament hosted by Ireland’s Pub Players 8Ball
Pool Tour which sees the tour going from strength to strength over this last
year attracting Ireland’s top players from tournament to tournament which
can only be good for the game….
