Carl Martin who has came through Ireland’s Junior Pool Academy has become
Tyrone’s Newest Cue Star after being crowned 2007 Tyrone Under-14 Individual
Pool Champion ……
The young 11-year old player who hails from Fintona put in one of the best
performance from a player of his age to be crowned the youngest 2007 Tyrone
under-14 individual 8ball pool champion last Wednesday night in Omagh defeating
a host of top players from throughout Tyrone older than himself with a dazzling
display of potting which any senior player would have been proud of………….
Carl who has his own full-size snooker table at home and who knocks in breaks
of 30 and 40 plus when practising picked up a cue at a early age and fell
in love with all cue-sport games ever since …….……

Ronnie Boyle tournament organiser said, when playing in the
Omagh District Snooker League many years ago Carl reminds me of a young 11
year-old Dermott Mc Glinchey from Castlederg coming onto the scene reaching
the semi-finals on the senior N. Ireland snooker championships at a young
age and a some years later Dermott turned professional and is still playing
on the professional circuit…….
This young Fintona player Carl Martin could do the same in the world of 8-ball
pool and maybe one day be crowned world pool champion…..……

The two finalists Carl Martin (Fintona, winner) and Nathan Todd (Seskanore,
runner-up)

The under-14 championships was played in groups of four with the top two
players progressing to the knockout stages which seen Carl finishing runner-up
in his group defeating Niall Garrity (Omagh) and Dale Booth (Omagh) before
losing to Nathan Todd (seskanore)………
In the semi-finals Carl defeated the tournament favourite and top junior
player Adam Mc Mackin (Beragh) who also plays on the men’s circuit on a 3-1
score-line before returning the result from the group matches this time round
by defeating Nathan Todd 3-2 in a fantastic final…..

This was a fantastic performance from Carl who is only a first year at Omagh
Christian Brothers school and who has also qualified for the grand-finals
of the under-16 Star of the Future hosted by Ireland’s Junior Pool Academy
also defeating much older players in this under-16 9ball category in the Enniskillen
venue…..
