10th
Annual Darts Festival
Getting Ready To Dart Off
All roads lead to Mahon’s Hotel,
Irvinestown Co. Fermanagh over the weekend of Friday 22nd
-----Sunday 24th February 2008 for the 10th annual
darts festival when over £8,000 prize-money will be on offer over this
fantastic weekend…..
This year sees the return of the current
champion Lionel Sams (right) who will be trying to retain his title
he won 12 months
ago when he defeated N. Ireland’s PDC member Ray Farrell in the
final……..
The organisers has also the pleasure of
welcoming for the first time to the annual event PDC players who are
starting to leave there mark on the professional game Kevin Mc Dine who
reached the semi-finals of this years PDC world championship along with
the Viper Tony Eccles also making his debut for the first time at the
event…….
The annual tournament sees the return of
the former world champion Steve Beaton and the Artist Kevin Painter and
also the Fen Tiger Peter Evison who has signed up for the legends
tour…….
These are just a few of the players and
not forgetting the players that supports the event year after year
Graeme Stoddart, Cliff Lasarenko, Jamie Harvey, Shane Burgess, Reg
Harding………
Not only does the Co. Fermanagh venue
attract top players from overseas they travel the length and breath of
the 32 counties of Ireland as well as our own local talent all chasing
the top prize-money which bees up for grabs each year….
All local players, men ladies and
juniors who represents every county in Ireland always have there own
competitions outside the main event, staged in front of packed houses
but all players are reminded that the main West Tyrone Open carries a
limited entry which is the first 64 players entered and based on first
come, first served….
Over the past nine years the annual West
Tyrone Open Classic has seen some of the world’s top professionals add
there names to the roll of honour list starting back in 1999 when Shane
Burgess became the first winner of this prestigious event, and ever
since then the winners names just seem to keep getting better and
better……the full winners list is Shane Burgess (1999, 2000),
Peter Manley (2001), John Part (2002, 2003), Colin Lloyd
(2004, 2005) and Chris Mason (2006) and last years champion
Lionel Sams (2007)….
As well as the main event there is
plenty more tournaments for local players to play in over this great and
enjoyable weekend of darts as well as the annual
Texas Hold’em Poker Tournaments that takes
place on the Friday & Saturday nights……
If any local player is thinking of
entering this years event should do so a.s.a.p. to avoid
disappointment….Local and Irish players should cast there minds back to
September when players travelled to Co. Mayo when they where told they
couldn’t enter because they never entered on time and all places was
taken up in no time and the same will happen at this main event if
players don’t pre-enter………
